My human just went to a memorial service at Parker's vet. (She's still OK.) These are some of the readings.

Do not weep for me when I am gone
For I have friends in the great beyond.
All the little ones I used to feed
Will come to me in my time of need.
They will purr and bark in great delight,
And I will hold and hug them tight.
Oh what a great day that will be
When my furry friends all welcome me.

“But now ask the beasts, and let them teach you;
And the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you.
“Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you;
And let the fish of the sea declare to you.

I think I could turn and live with animals, they are so placid and self-contain'd,
I stand and look at them long and long.

They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied, not one is demented with the mania of owning things,
Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago,
Not one is respectable or unhappy over the whole earth.

When a [cat] finally passes on, there is an emptiness, a place in our hearts that will never be filled again in exactly the way it was. Because no matter how many [cats] we have over the years, each is unique, a friend, and when they go away, our lives are changed forever in many small ways.

I'll have to have my Daddy write this one down, he'd like to say it at my brofurs funeral, he's 18 1/2 and has failing kidneys.

This is him, his name is Cuddles

By the edge of a wood, at the foot of a hill,
is a lush green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
when their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
for here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
the time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
and then, side-by-side,
they cross over . . . together.

FOUR FEET IN HEAVEN

Your favorite chair is vacant now,
No eager purrs to greet me.
No softly padded paws to run,
Ecstatically to meet me.

No coaxing rubs, no plaintive cry,
Will say it's time for feeding.
I've put away your bowl and all
The things you won't be needing.

But I will miss you, little friend,
For I could never measure,
The happiness you brought to me,
The comfort and the pleasure.

And since God put you here to share
In earthly joy and sorrow.
I'm sure there'll be a place for you
In Heaven's bright tomorrow.

Our little, sweet Nicky was less than 6 months old when he passed to the Bridge. He had gotten a hold of one of daddy's full insulin syringes and mommy found him under the big easy chair with the empty syringe. Mommy has never gotten over the pain of loosing Nicky. He had been a very ill little stray kitten when she nursed him back to health. Daddy referred to him as "The Runt". Mommy would sing: Knick Knack Patty Wack, Give a dog a bone; our Little Nicky came running home. She still cries when she realizes that Nicky will not be running home; at least not on this side of the Rainbow Bridge. She loves him forever.

A Pet's Peace
by Tracy M. Johnson

I have left you now, but please don't be sad,
you gave me all the love you had.
You did so much for me in my time here
and i'll always hold those precious times near.

I know someday you'll find love again
and into your life will come a new friend.
Your heart will heal, though you'll never forget
memories like the first time we met.

Memories are wonderful, so keep them close
and remember all the good times the most.
Up in the Heaven for animals is where i'll be
and someday in the future, each other we'll see.

I am at PEACE now, so please don't be sad
You gave me all the love you had.

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
